Kansas Senate Bill 244

To say that we are disheartened and frustrated with the decision by the Kansas Senate and House of Representatives to overturn the Governor’s veto of SB244 is a gross understatement. To force it into effect without any grace period is a disgusting level of cruelty. We fail to see how over-regulating a singled out demographic is supposed to improve the lives of Kansans. We also refuse to accept that this legislation is the will of the people when we were never allowed to give public comment on the bill.

Wichita Pride does not exist without the trans community. There is no LGBTQIA community without all the members cared for and protected.

We recognize the scary risks associated with traveling and the dangers of being out in public for our trans siblings. Wichita Pride will work to make sure you will be allowed to use the bathroom that you’re most comfortable with while at a Wichita Pride event.

Additionally, Wichita Pride will be looking into the next steps to help reduce the risk for all attending our events.
